A Collection of Yu Yingshi. Volume 1, History, Historians, and the Times

Author: Yu Yingshi
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-04-01
Features: The 12 articles included in this volume cover fields such as historical perspective, historical thought and philosophy, and comparative studies of historical works, conveying the idea of achieving a state of harmonious integration between subject and object, and appropriateness in historical research. These four volumes of the Collected Works are largely essays on Chinese historiography, cultural history, and intellectual history, though a few discuss Western history and culture. The writing period spans from the 1950s to the recent one or two years; over this half-century, the author's knowledge and ideas have undergone significant changes and developments. If the author were to rewrite these essays with today's understanding, they would undoubtedly take on a different form. However, whether rewriting or thorough revision, it is practically impossible. The author can only publish the old works anew to preserve their authenticity.
