Pablo Picasso: Spanish painter, a major representative of French modern painting. Born into a family of art teachers, he was named after his mother. He studied painting at the academies in Barcelona and Madrid. In 1904, he settled in Paris. After 1907, he worked with the painter Georges Braque on Cubist painting, advocating that the role of the artist is not to reflect reality through concrete objects but to create abstract forms to express what is called scientific truth. He adopted a technique of depicting objects from multiple perspectives simultaneously and attached real objects (such as newspapers, matchboxes) to the canvas to seek novelty in form. His painting style and techniques changed frequently throughout his life. In his early works, he depicted themes similar to Expressionism, expressing deep sympathy for figures like beggars, wandering artists, and circus performers; later, he focused on primitive art, simplifying forms. From 1915 to the early 1920s, his style shifted to realism. Starting in 1930, hely leaned toward Surrealism. During World War II, he wrote satirical poems titled "Franco's Dreams and Lies" with illustrations and painted the oil painting "Guernica" to protest the fascist invasion of Spain by Germany and Italy. This painting combines Cubism, realism, and Surrealism to express pain, suffering, and bestiality, making it representative of his work. In 1944, he joined the French Communist Party. Later, he created propaganda posters for the World Peace Congress, such as "The Peace Dove." In his later years, he produced a large number of sculptures and ceramics, also achieving outstanding results. His works have had a significant impact on modern Western art movements.
