Features: During a night shift, a cardiologist doodled cartoons on his prescription pads, much to the astonishment of the art world. Oil painter Liu Yan said, "When I first saw Wei Erqiao's paintings, the shock is still fresh in my memory: How could a human draw like this!" So, when Dr. Wang Yubei, a philosophy PhD, wanted someone to illustrate his philosophical essays, Mr. Liu immediately thought of Wei Erqiao.
In the duty room, the radiator was hissing with steam. That usually timid person could now breathe peacefully, think about whimsical things, and calmly watch a black cat hurriedly walking across the street, covered in fallen leaves. He lay on the soft bed in the duty room, silently talking to my unseen friend in his heart. The feeling was like just after a shower, wearing clean clothes, walking on a spotless street.
Perhaps due to some personality traits, I have few friends. Or rather, few people are willing to be friends with me. I often appear aloof in daily life. I am often alone, thinking about things that don't matter, creating another world in my mind—a small, private universe where I spend my days. Gradually, I become oblivious. Such a scene is quite like sleepwalking. The paintings included in this book are the "encounters, thoughts, and feelings" of a doctor named Wei Erqiao during his "sleepwalking." Thus, the book is titled A Journal of Sleepwalking.
