Features: A modern Chinese standard dictionary, organized in accordance with the of the State Council with the purpose of establishing lexical norms and the aim of promoting Mandarin Chinese and enhancing the standardization of the Chinese language. It was compiled by an authoritative organization—a dedicated writing team established for this purpose, the Editorial Department of Dictionary Compilation, Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, under the successive leadership of renowned linguists Lu Shuxiang and Ding Shengshu, with the participation of nearly one hundred scholars. This is a medium-sized dictionary primarily recording common Mandarin vocabulary, intended for readers with middle school or above education. The entries include characters, words, word groups, idioms, and set phrases, totaling approximately 56,000 entries. This dictionary serves the purpose of promoting Mandarin Chinese and standardizing the Chinese language, with efforts made in all aspects such as character forms, word forms, phonetic annotation, and definitions. In addition to general vocabulary, it also includes common dialect words and meanings, old words and meanings still in use recently, and certain frequently encountered specialized terms, as well as classical Chinese words commonly found in written form.
