Features: Dunhuang is a concentrated embodiment of human civilization and the profound and extensive culture of the Chinese nation. It connects Chinese civilization, Indian civilization, Persian civilization, and Byzantine civilization, standing at the crossroads where several major world civilizations intersect. Dunhuang is a dazzling pearl on the ancient Silk Road. The Han, Uyghur, Tuyuhun, and Tibetan peoples who lived there collectively created Dunhuang culture. Therefore, the cave art of Mogao Caves, as a symbol of Dunhuang studies, is a crystallization of their collective wisdom and also a product of religious and cultural exchanges between the East and the West. The development of Dunhuang studies requires in-depth, high-quality academic research, as well as popularization and promotion to let more people understand Dunhuang and appreciate its splendid and brilliant cultural connotations. The 21st century is not only a period of deep development for Dunhuang studies but also a period of widespread popularization. For this reason, the Nationalities Publishing House, in collaboration with the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education—the Dunhuang Studies Research Institute of Lanzhou University—has launched the popular Dunhuang studies book series, Dunhuang Anecdotes and Writings.
