The content of the book: As the title suggests, this is a topic related to colors. However, initially, this topic had nothing to do with colors. At that time, I was watching the birth of a tiny life: a little chicken struggling to emerge from an eggshell, its body covered in wet feathers. To me, a child still very young at the time, the process seemed almost earth-shattering—how a single egg, perhaps held in my hands just a month ago, had now become the home of a wet little chicken. It was working hard to break free from this home. In other words, it wanted to step into my world. This is how earth-shattering moments appear in a child's eyes—they are so ordinary.
Or perhaps on a sunny afternoon, while snowflakes still drifted outside the window, there was a warm bed inside the house. A little chicken, having recently hatched from an eggshell, became a fluffy ball of pale yellow in the warm light. Its delicate appearance was adorable. It captured the attention of a child. It became a fairy tale of life in the child's eyes. Pale yellow. That color became one I liked.
During the winter when fur hats were in fashion, I pointed to a pale yellow fur hat with a scarf in a store near Xiaobailou in Tianjin. I told my mother, "I want that color." The saleswoman and my mother both laughed, saying how much prettier it would be for a child to wear red or pink. But I stubbornly clung to my pale yellow. I looked in the mirror at how the color of pale yellow created a warm miracle on my head.
Yes, it was a miracle. In the howling wind of the winter north, the child, wrapped in the pale yellow color, possessed a dream all their own.
