During the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhang Yu, a carpenter working in the mansion of Prime Minister Luo, heard that the prime minister's son had won a lot of silver by fighting crickets. Intrigued, Zhang went to sneak a look at the cricket the prime minister's son had. Unbeknownst to him, as soon as he lifted the lid of the pot, the cricket escaped. Enraged, the prime minister's son beat Zhang and demanded he compensate for the cricket within three days, threatening to kill him if he failed. Desperate, Zhang was driven to commit suicide by drowning but was saved by the Bodhisattva Jigong.
With boundless Buddhist wisdom, Jigong knew Zhang had three coins left in his pocket. He used them to buy a half-dead cricket and then went to the prime minister's son, claiming his cricket could fight a rooster. The prime minister's son ordered his servants to bring a rooster for the bet, but the tiny cricket defeated the rooster. Impressed, the prime minister offered five hundred taels of silver to buy the magical cricket. Jigong then gave the silver to Zhang, allowing him to find his own way.
After obtaining this miraculous cricket, the prime minister grew quite proud and treated it as a treasure. One day, the cricket escaped from its pot, and he rushed to chase it. However, the cricket burrowed underground. The prime minister ordered his men to dig up all the tiles, but the cricket's chirping sound came from behind the walls. He then ordered the walls to be torn down. Wherever the cricket chirped, he had his house demolished, ultimately collapsing the entire prime minister's mansion.
The cruel prime minister, who had committed countless evils, was crushed inside and punished by Jigong.
