Features: The "New Series of Graduate English Course/Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course" was commissioned by the Beijing Graduate English Teaching Research Association and developed by relevant universities in Beijing based on the "Graduate English Teaching Syllabus" and the practical needs of recent years in graduate English teaching. It is suitable for non-English major postgraduate students in universities and colleges across various disciplines, including humanities, sciences, engineering, medicine, agriculture, and forestry. Each unit in the "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course" is divided into three main parts: 1. Listening Practice; 2. Speaking Practice; 3. Listening Test. The entire book consists of 16 units and is estimated to require approximately 32 class hours, making it suitable for use over one semester. Schools can flexibly select units based on their listening course schedules. The "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course" emphasizes training in listening skills at the discourse level, strengthening the ability to accurately obtain required information and improving comprehension of listening materials with higher linguistic authenticity. During the writing process, the following six points were taken into consideration: 1) The selection of materials focuses on core language, with daily-life themes as the main content. Efforts are made to ensure the content is novel, emphasizing thoughtfulness, interest, and knowledge. 2) Diverse exercise formats are adopted, including recording, Q&A, filling out tables, creating tables, filling in diagrams, and true/false judgment, to cultivate students' ability to analyze and summarize while listening, thereby enhancing their authentic language use skills. 3) Listening and speaking are combined, with listening as the primary focus and speaking as a supplement. After each unit's listening practice, a moderate amount of speaking exercises are provided. Listening materials can be directly used for speaking practice. 4) The difficulty level progresses from easy to hard. The first six units are relatively simple to help new students adapt. 5) Each unit includes listening simulation tests. These tests are strictly compiled according to the examination syllabus requirements, featuring specialized listening exercises in dialogue form, as well as short passage listening exercises and full-simulation tests. 6) The length and difficulty of the listening materials are moderate, with standardized language. The "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course" pays attention to the speaking practice training of graduate students, providing a certain amount of speaking exercises in each unit. Additionally, it includes corresponding listening simulation exercises tailored to the needs of the graduate English degree course examination, enabling students to better adapt to the exam. Great emphasis is placed on recording quality, speaking speed, and the clarity of the tapes to ensure effective listening teaching.
