Child constipation, defecating every day, but each time it's one pellet at a time.

Patient's question:

The child is now two years and ten months old. Since turning two, they have been constipated. Initially, the stool started to form small pellets and then improved in consistency; however, two months ago after a high fever, although they defecate daily, each bowel movement remains pellet-like. Two months ago, at the pediatric hospital's traditional Chinese medicine department, they were prescribed medication for an imbalance in the spleen and stomach. The main medications taken were Qipi Koufuye (Stomach-Strengthening Oral Liquid), Xia'er Kang Granules, and Xia'er Xiaoshi Granules. Currently, their appetite has improved. However, due to dry stools, they were prescribed Xia'er Huadu San (Child's Detoxifying Powder) and Yiniangjin Capsules. Initially, the first two days of taking these medications showed effectiveness, but after that, the stools remained pellet-like.

Doctor's answer:

Constipation in children is very common in clinical practice, and the key to treatment is to address the specific condition! For constipation, my experience is to focus on regulating the spleen and stomach. It is not advisable to use fire-clearing or purgative medications or honey products lightly. Generally, after a period of regulation and combined with improved dietary habits, it will not recur.
