Features: The United States Military Academy at West Point became the earliest established military academy in the United States, with its first president being Jonathan Williams, the grandson of the famous statesman and scientist Benjamin Franklin. However, the one revered as the "Soul of West Point" was Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, who served as the academy's president from 1817 to 1833. It was during his tenure that the academic standards of West Point were raised, military discipline was strictly enforced, and the importance of integrity and honesty was emphasized. West Point soldiers are a pride of the United States.
