Features: The mountains and rivers of the Ba Yu region are majestic and picturesque, with a rich historical heritage. From the indigenous peoples who established villages on this land as early as 4,000 years ago, to the appearance of cities along the river in the Spring and Autumn period, and through the elevation of Gongzhou to Chongqing Prefecture in August of the 16th year of the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty, to becoming the largest commodity trading hub in eastern Sichuan during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, the establishment of market towns has kept pace with the times. As regional economic and social hubs, many market towns either originated in the Qin and Han dynasties, flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties, or reached their peak in the Ming and Qing dynasties. None are insignificant symbols of the evolution of Ba Yu culture, and they are all highly valuable. This series of illustrated books on Chongqing ancient towns is an effort to contribute our small part. This series consists of 8 books, with each book featuring 100 to 150 photographic images, accompanied by 50,000 to 60,000 descriptive words, to introduce a historic and cultural town in Chongqing. The author strives to achieve the realism and presence of the images, allowing the text to be deeply rooted in a specific temporal and spatial framework, while the text also stimulates divergent thinking, enabling the visual and intuitive nature of the images to be interpreted from multiple dimensions. This series not only helps to call for people to understand, pay attention to, and protect ancient towns but also contributes to enhancing cultural awareness, promoting tourism development, and advancing urban construction. Even when some ancient town is inevitably lost, it can serve as a record for posterity.
