Features: Lu Xun's position in the history of modern Chinese literature is undeniable. It was under Lu Xun that the essay became an exceptionally sharp dagger and spear. As a great thinker, Lu Xun's essays provide profound insights into and critiques of Chinese society, which remain thought-provoking even today. However, with the passage of time, it is not easy for today's young people to truly understand Lu Xun, grasp the depth of his thoughts, or appreciate his profound understanding of Chinese culture and society. Precisely because of this difficulty, Lu Xun has been misinterpreted, intentionally or unintentionally: sometimes he is portrayed as a writer who "obedient to politics" for others to imitate; sometimes as an eccentric old man in fabricated stories; and sometimes as an obstacle ("an old stone") blocking the path of new writers and researchers, with some people always wanting to kick him away mercilessly. This book will help us interpret Lu Xun correctly. The Selected Classic Essays of Lu Xun features dozens of his essays, arranged in chronological order of their composition. This arrangement allows readers to glimpse the contours of the times directly. Each essay is followed by a commentary—whether brief or extended—the style of which is concise and somewhat reminiscent of Lu Xun's own essays. The content generally reflects the social, intellectual, and cultural background of Lu Xun's essay writing, as well as his methods of thought. It aims to help readers understand a complete and authentic Lu Xun, grasp the historical atmosphere of his era, and reflect on the issues and phenomena in contemporary life through his thoughts.
