We have previously admired the Buddhist sculpture art of Maiji Mountain, often merely praising its profound artistic expression. But art always conveys a certain content. If we are not very clear about the specific meaning, it will inevitably affect the depth of our understanding of the art and prevent us from truly appreciating its subtlety. For this reason, the collection edited in collaboration by the Institute of Buddhist Culture and the Research Institute of Maiji Mountain Grotto Art holds special significance. For Buddhists, however, it may be the other way around—the album alone holds substantive meaning, because it is only here that they can more deeply understand the greatness of Buddhism through art.
