Liang Xiaosheng was born in Harbin in 1949 to a construction worker family and is originally from Rongcheng, Shandong. He graduated from Harbin No. 29 Middle School in 1966. In 1968, he was sent to the Beidahuang region for the Down-to-the-Fields Campaign and worked as a farmer, primary school teacher, and reporter. In 1974, he was recommended by the Wood Processing Factory of the Communist Youth League to attend university and enrolled in the Creative Writing program at Fudan University's Chinese Department. In 1977, he graduated and was assigned to the Beijing Film Studio as an editor. In 1988, he moved to the China Children's Film Studio as a screenwriter. He is currently the Art Committee Vice Chairman of the China Children's Film Studio; a professor at the School of Humanities, China University of Political Science and Law; and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Liang Xiaosheng's creative work primarily consists of novels, and he has written six full-length novels. By early 1994, he had published over six million words. Most of his works have been published in Hong Kong and Taiwan and translated into English, Japanese, French, Russian, and other languages. His name has been included in the "World" (Who's Who) of the UK, the US, and Australia. Liang Xiaosheng's novels are mainly focused on the youth movement theme, some of which are referred to as "Beidahuang Novels," with representative works including That Was a Magical Land, There Is a Gale Tonight, and Snow City, among which the full-length novel Snow City is particularly outstanding. In his later works, he began exploring reality and human nature. His full-length novel Floating City presents a profound prediction of the end of humanity in the form of social fantasy.
