Patient's question:
Patient Gender: FemaleOnset and Duration of Current Illness: 6 years
Current General Condition: Urine Protein +1
Doctor's answer:
Regarding the issue of "pregnancy (having a child)" and "kidney disease":1. During the treatment of nephrotic syndrome, pregnancy is strictly prohibited.
2. Outside of treatment for nephrotic syndrome, pregnancy is absolutely forbidden if:
- Urine protein exceeds two "plus" signs,
- The total amount of urine protein in 24 hours is greater than 1.5 grams,
- Or blood pressure is higher than normal. In these cases, accidental pregnancy is also prohibited.
3. After stopping medication for nephrotic syndrome, if:
- Urine protein is trace to one "plus" sign,
- The total amount of urine protein in 24 hours is around 1.0 gram,
- And blood pressure is normal,
Pregnancy can be considered under the guidance of a nephrologist and a gynecologist. However, regular monitoring of blood pressure, edema, urine protein, red blood cells in urine, and renal function is required. If any exceeds normal levels and medication is ineffective, pregnancy should be immediately terminated.
4. After stopping medication for more than one year with stable nephrotic syndrome, normal urine protein, and normal blood pressure, pregnancy is possible. However, regular hospital check-ups for related indicators are still necessary.
5. The above applies to cases with normal renal function. For chronic nephritis with abnormal renal function, pregnancy should not be considered at all, as it poses a life-threatening risk.
