Can babies eat vitamin E?..

Patient's question:

Can babies eat vitamin E?

Doctor's answer:

No! This product should only be used routinely for immature infants and low birth weight infants to prevent hemolytic anemia caused by vitamin E deficiency, and to reduce the formation of posterior pole fibrosis (which can lead to blindness) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia caused by oxygen toxicity. Daily requirement of vitamin E: Infants from birth to 3 years old - 3 to 6 mg. Vitamin E deficiency: Children - 1 mg/kg per day. Premature infants - 15 to 20 mg per day. Chronic cholestasis infants - oral administration of water-soluble vitamin E preparation at 15 to 25 mg per day.
