Patient's question:
I haven't been able to conceive with my wife for over a year. My wife has normal fallopian tubes, no polycystic ovaries, normal endocrine function, normal uterus and appendages, and negative sperm antibodies. My sperm has good motility, but only 21% of them are normal in shape. My cousin was tested and found to have XYY chromosomes. Could I also have them? How can I be tested?Doctor's answer:
Hello, your cousin checked his chromosomes and found them to be XYY, with an extra Y chromosome. This does not necessarily mean you also have a chromosomal abnormality. You can get checked. Currently, your sperm morphology is abnormal, and this is not ruled out as being caused by varicocele, which leads to increased temperature and abnormal sperm morphology. You can have blood drawn for a 3 mL sample to check your chromosomes.
