Hello, it's a pleasure to assist you! Most newborns develop jaundice within 2-3 days after birth, manifesting as yellowing of the skin, whites of the eyes, and oral mucosa, ranging from mild to severe. This is a normal condition and there's no need to worry excessively. It is usually more noticeable on the face and chest, but the palms and soles remain unaffected. When jaundice occurs, the child does not experience any discomfort, and the stool remains normal in color, with urine not appearing excessively yellow.Newborn physiological jaundice does not require treatment. You can appropriately provide your child with additional glucose water, which typically resolves within about a week. It's recommended to have your baby's jaundice index checked at the hospital. If the level is below 10, there's no need for excessive concern. However, if it exceeds 10, it may affect the brain. Our baby had breast milk jaundice, which eventually resolved after stopping breastfeeding for 10 days. If your baby eats well, has frequent bowel movements, and sleeps soundly, there should be no issues—just relax, everything will be fine.
If the jaundice persists without improvement, it may be pathological jaundice. There are many factors or causes that can lead to this condition, and it is essential to seek medical attention promptly for examination and treatment. The fastest way to eliminate jaundice is through phototherapy at the hospital, which typically takes about 2-3 days to resolve.
