Features: This book introduces the new features in Oracle9i Release (9.2.0.0 version), helping you fully understand the new enhancements of the RMAN interface and explaining the added features. If certain content is not covered in Oracle9i Release 1, we will indicate this in the text. However, all code examples and architecture descriptions are based on the Oracle9i version of RMAN. If you are still using Oracle8i, you should be aware of the significant differences between the command interfaces for operating RMAN in Oracle8i and Oracle9i. Appendix C of this book discusses the major differences between Oracle8i and Oracle9i. Additionally, we have clearly marked the features that were not present in Oracle8i. Besides the differences between Oracle8i and Oracle9i, there are also significant changes between versions 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. Appendix C briefly discusses the limitations of Oracle8 while also introducing these differences. This book comprehensively covers the backup and recovery features of Oracle9i Recovery Manager (RMAN). It explains in detail how to set up the database for RMAN, how to use RMAN to back up and restore databases, and how to use recovery catalogs. The latter part of the book also provides case studies, illustrating RMAN backup and recovery operations in various scenarios. This book is suitable for all Oracle DBAs and system administrators.
