B results show the child has a small hemangioma in the right liver lobe. Should we be worried?

Patient's question:

My child is 13 years old. When they run during physical education class, they experience pain in the lower right abdomen, but the pain disappears when they don't run. They visited a doctor and had an ultrasound, which revealed a 9x7mm-sized hemangioma in the right lobe of the liver. We are very concerned. Is it dangerous? Can they still attend physical education class?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Hepatic hemangioma is a benign tumor of the liver. Small hemangiomas are often asymptomatic, while larger ones may cause discomfort in the liver area. Tumors with a diameter of less than 5 cm and those without symptoms do not require treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise to prevent the hemangioma from rupturing, and undergo regular follow-up examinations. If the tumor is larger than 5 cm, interventional therapy is recommended. It is a minimally invasive surgery with a fast recovery and good results.
