My baby was at the People's Armed Police Children's Hospital at eight months, and they said it was acute upper respiratory infection.

Patient's question:

Since yesterday, I've been lactose intolerant and have a sore throat. It's said to be acute upper respiratory tract infection, and I was prescribed medicine. I went to the Wujiang People's Hospital for Children to see a doctor.

Doctor's answer:

Etiological Treatment
(1) Antibacterial Treatment
Antibacterial drugs are not required for simple viral infections. When there is evidence of bacterial infection, such as elevated white blood cell count, tonsillar exudates, or yellow sputum, penicillin, first-generation cephalosporins, macrolides, or quinolones may be used as appropriate. Sensitive antibacterial drugs should be selected based on the pathogen in very rare cases.
(2) Antiviral Treatment
Currently, there are no specific antiviral drugs available, and the misuse of antiviral drugs can lead to influenza virus resistance. Therefore, patients without fever and normal immune function who have been ill for more than two days generally do not need to be treated. Immunocompromised patients can be given routine early treatment. Broad-spectrum antiviral drugs such as ribavirin and oseltamivir have strong inhibitory effects on influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, and respiratory syncytial virus, which can shorten the duration of illness.
3. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Treatment
TCM herbs with (clearing heat and detoxifying) and antiviral effects can also be used to help alleviate symptoms and shorten the duration of illness. Xiao Chaihu granules and Banlangen granules are widely used.
