What should I do if I can't see clearly after an eye injury?

Patient's question:

Eye injury can't see things clearly

Doctor's answer:

Eye trauma is a common eye disease in clinical practice and one of the main causes of blindness. After the eye suffers trauma, mild cases may result in vision loss, while severe cases can lead to complete loss of vision. Due to the complex and fragile structure of the eye, forces that do not cause harm to other parts of the body can still injure the eye. The structure of the eye is transparent, and when trauma causes this transparent structure to become cloudy, it inevitably leads to vision loss. Additionally, a penetrating injury to one eye can severely damage the injured eye. If the trauma involves a penetrating wound in the eye, it can also lead to sympathetic ophthalmia in the healthy eye, which can result in blindness in both eyes. Eye trauma can be divided into two major categories: mechanical and non-mechanical eye trauma. Mechanical eye trauma can further be classified into blunt and penetrating eye trauma. Non-mechanical eye trauma includes chemical trauma, thermal burns, and radiation trauma. The damage caused by eye trauma varies in severity and location. Some cases may only injure the skin of the eyelid and the superficial layer of the cornea, while others can cause anterior chamber hemorrhage. Severe cases may involve a penetrating corneal wound, iris perforation, lens opacity, intraocular hemorrhage, retinal edema or bleeding, and even retinal holes or detachment. In some cases, foreign bodies may remain inside the eye. The consequences of eye trauma are severe, and even with timely treatment, it is often difficult to maintain the original visual function.
