Features: "The Fables of Krylov" (1805-1834) consists of 9 volumes, totaling 205 fables. It uses birds, fish, insects, animals, mountains, water, flowers, grass, rain, thunder, fog—and primarily focuses on stories about animals—as if a "smooth and polished mirror of Russian society," reflecting the reality of life in Russian society in the first half of the 19th century. It critiques the autocratic and brutal rule of the Tsar and his bureaucracy, such as in "The Plague Among the Beasts"; exposes the corruption and evil of the serfdom society, such as in "The Dance of the Fishes"; and shows sympathy for the tragic fate of the working people while praising their diligence and courage. To align with the requirements of the "Full-Time Compulsory Education Language Curriculum Standards" for extracurricular reading for primary and secondary school students, we have specially compiled this book. The compiler has selected 98 fables, categorizing them into six volumes based on the focus of the themes they represent: arrogance, wisdom leading to misfortune, the trap of hypocrisy and flattery, the logic of robbers, stupidity and jealousy, and foolish governance.
