What causes pediatric osteosarcoma?

Patient's question:

My younger brother used to be very normal. He could run and jump before, but recently, he can't walk properly. Every time he walks, it hurts a lot, and he often falls. At first, we thought it was just because he wasn't paying attention to where he was going. But since it happened every day, my aunt got worried and took him for a check-up. The doctor said he had osteosarcoma.

Doctor's answer:

The cause of osteosarcoma is not yet fully understood. It may be caused by viruses, or it could potentially be the result of metastasis from other tumors. Exercise does not cause osteosarcoma, but collisions during physical activity can promote tumor growth!
