5 and a half years old with fever and convulsions, IV drip for several days. Why was dextrose administered?

Patient's question:

On August 24, 2014, in the morning, I had a fever and saw a doctor who gave me medicine to take. After 6 PM that evening, my fever reached 40 degrees Celsius. Just as I was about to go to the hospital, I started having convulsions. After arriving at the hospital, I was given an IV drip, and the next day, additional medicine called mannitol was added.

Doctor's answer:

Febrile seizures are age-related and usually resolve on their own after the age of 6. Strengthen the body, avoid febrile diseases, and promptly reduce fever when fever occurs.
If it is not an intracranial infection, mannitol is not needed.
