Features: Luo Gongliu, a prominent contemporary Chinese painter and art educator, was born in Kaiping County, Guangdong in 1916. In 1936, he enrolled at the National Hangzhou Art College and actively participated in the national liberation movement and anti-Japanese propaganda activities. In 1938, he worked in the arts under Guo Moruo's leadership in the Third Department and was elected as a council member of the National Woodcut Association. That same year, he joined the "Luyi Woodcut Work Group" and went to the front lines. In 1946, he returned to Yan'an and served as the Deputy Head of the Art Group at the Central Research Institute of Literature and Art. That autumn, he became the Director of the Art Department at the North China University of Arts. In 1950, he participated in the founding of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and held leadership positions. In 1951, his historical paintings "Tunnel Warfare" and "Report on Rectification" were collected by the National Museum. From 1955 to 1958, he studied painting at the Repin Institute of Fine Arts in the Soviet Union. In 1959, he held an individual exhibition in Beijing and toured major cities across the country. In 1960, he became a member of the Secretariat of the China Artists Association. In 1961, he led the teaching work of the Oil Painting Research Class at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. His works "Marching Forward Despite Sacrifices" and "Mao Zedong on Jinggang Mountain" were collected by the National Art Museum of China. In 1979, he served as the Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and was appointed as a member of the Fourth Chinese Writers' and Artists' Federation and a Standing Council member of the National Artists Association. In recognition of his achievements, the Chinese Writers' and Artists' Federation awarded him a gold medal, and the state presented him with a golden tripod.
