Consult the treatment for facial paralysis sequelae

Patient's question:

The child is now 2.5 years old and has been sick for over a year. The facial nerve palsy has not been completely cured and has left sequelae, which are becoming increasingly severe.

Doctor's answer:

Generally speaking, a child's facial paralysis is caused by facial nerve inflammation triggered by conditions such as upper respiratory infections. Hormone treatment within the first week of onset, followed by infrared therapy and other neural rehabilitation treatments, will only improve over time. Although some cases may not fully recover, they will not worsen.
If your child's condition has been worsening for over a year, you may need to:
1. Take your child to an otolaryngology department and neurosurgery department for examination to check for craniopharyngioma or other conditions that continuously affect the facial nerve and are accompanied by auditory nerve issues.
2. Consult a pediatric neurology specialist for a head MRI to assess whether there is any demyelinating disease of the brain or spinal cord affecting the facial nerve or its function.
