Solution to the problem of Bell's palsy

Patient's question:

I have had facial paralysis for half a year (right side). Starting from December 22, 2013, at the beginning of the illness, I received intravenous saline for 2 days and electroacupuncture for 4 times. A week later, I noticed herpes on my ear. After taking medicine for a week, the herpes healed. From January 5 to March 26, I applied ointment (at this time, the symptoms were: my eyes would close tightly when looking at the computer for a long time, my mouth would leak air, and my nose lines were slightly reduced). Starting from March 26, I began acupuncture, which lasted for over two months until June 12. By then, my eyes could close tightly, and my mouth no longer leaked air. However, many (coordinated movements) appeared, such as the corner of my mouth moving when closing my eyes, the upper part of my right eyelid moving when eating, the inner corner of my eye contracting when closing my mouth, the mouth moving when wrinkling my nose, my right eye closing involuntarily when yawning, and the corner of my mouth tightening when stretching. The contraction of my mouth was asymmetrical. Additionally, there are a few points on my face that jump irregularly, but they don’t jump continuously—only once every hour or a few hours, and then they move to a different spot the next day. I really dislike this feeling. Also, my right face often feels stiff. My right eye frequently tears slightly, especially in the morning, with some improvement in the afternoon.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! The cause of facial paralysis sequelae and facial muscle is post-inflammatory damage to the facial nerve, and during the regeneration and repair of the facial nerve, there is also a misdirection of nerve growth. You are still in the early stage, and you can perform facial muscle exercises on your own. If necessary, you can receive medication injections to assist with recovery.
You can practice smiling in front of a mirror, aiming for symmetry and naturalness. When you are satisfied with your smile expression, remember the amount and direction of the facial muscle contraction, and develop the habit of smiling. In the future, you should always present this exercise result. This is smile training. You can come to the Ninth People's Hospital for a consultation.
