How long does it take for a child with allergic asthma to recover?

Patient's question:

My daughter had bronchopneumonia when she was over one year old, which then developed into allergic asthma. She has been treated with Pulmicort and Alvesco inhalers. After using them for a year, she recovered. Now she is over two years old, but recently she has been coughing frequently, especially at night when she is sleeping in the middle of the night, and the coughing becomes quite severe. The doctor at the hospital said it might be seasonal allergic asthma. Is this the case? When will she recover from this? Can these inhalers be used long-term? Will they affect her growth and development? Are there other treatment methods?

Doctor's answer:

Hormonal inhalers should be gradually discontinued 6 to 12 months after symptom control, or they can be used for several years before being stopped.
