Patient's question:
On July 1st, I got a severe blister from scalding water, as big as a quail egg. On July 2nd, I accidentally burst it. Now I'm applying Meibao Moisturizing Burn Ointment, which says to change the dressing every 4-6 hours. How do I change it? Also, how do I get rid of the original one?Doctor's answer:
First, don't panic, and don't rush to take off your thin, close-fitting clothes such as undershirts or stockings. You should immediately rinse with cold water. Wait until it cools before carefully removing the close-fitting clothes to avoid tearing and burning blisters. The purpose of rinsing with cold water is to relieve pain, reduce exudation and swelling, thereby preventing or reducing blister formation. The rinsing time should be about half an hour or more, until you no longer feel pain when the rinsing stops. The water temperature should be around 20℃. Avoid using ice water to prevent frostbite. If the burn is on your fingers, you can also soak them in cold water. For areas like the face that cannot be rinsed or soaked, use cold compresses. After the cold water treatment, dry the wound gently, then apply a thin layer of ointment such as blue petroleum jelly or green ointment, and bandage it appropriately for 1 to 2 days to prevent blisters.
