Is Tonic-clonic Seizures helped by taking Levetiracetam tablets?

Patient's question:

My baby had a grand mal seizure on January 2nd of this year, a tonic-clonic seizure, which lasted approximately 4 minutes. After that, the seizures became frequent, occurring every half hour. After an injection of phenobarbital, the seizures were controlled. The levetiracetam prescribed by the hospital was taken for 14 days, after which the seizures returned and became frequent again, occurring every half hour. After going back to the hospital for an injection of phenobarbital to control the seizures, additional medication (levetiracetam) was added. However, 16 days later, the seizures recurred, and they were even more severe than before. In both cases of recurrence, vomiting occurred within half an hour of taking the medication, and after vomiting, there were occasional episodes of staring blankly that night, followed by seizures starting the next day, which gradually became more frequent!
Could you please tell me why my baby's seizures are so frequent and why the symptoms each time resemble a grand mal seizure? Does vomiting affect the effectiveness of the medication? My baby has undergone CT and MRI scans, which were all normal. The brain...

Doctor's answer:

Levetiracetam tablets are effective for infantile myoclonic seizures. The frequent occurrence of these seizures may be due to insufficient medication dosage. It is recommended that you visit a regular hospital's pediatric neurology department for consultation. Please have a professional doctor adjust the dosage. Additionally, as described, your child sometimes experiences frequent seizures, which may indicate status epilepticus. This is a serious condition that can significantly affect your child's intelligence and requires immediate treatment.
