Features: China is a land of poetry, and the Tang poetry is the most dazzling gem in this poetic realm. Tang poetry not only delights the Chinese people but has also attracted significant attention from modern Western linguistic and poetic critics. They even consider Tang poetry to be like the paintings of Matisse and Cézanne, capable of validating their theories on literary imagery and linguistic structure. Tang Poetry and Painting Anthology was compiled by Huang Fengchi, the owner of Ming Jiyazhai, as a woodblock print collection that unites the beauty of poetry, calligraphy, and painting. It was published during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and is one of the representative works of the Huizhou style. The anthology selects about fifty five-character, six-character, and seven-character poems from Tang poets, with calligraphy by renowned masters such as Dong Qichang and Chen Jiru, and paintings by skilled artists like Cai Chonghuan and Tang Shizhen. The woodblock carving was done by famous Huizhou craftsmen such as Liu Ciquan, making it a "Four Perfections" masterpiece. It was praised by contemporaries as "exquisite poetry, every word a pearl, and miraculous paintings."
