"The Penguin Laser Disc Guide" is a world-renowned authoritative book. It is not an easy task to translate such a large book into Chinese and present it to Chinese (or Chinese-speaking) readers. The difficulties and hardships involved in this process are, I believe, not hard for fellow translators and friends who have ever engaged in foreign language translation to imagine. At the time when the translation and editing of this book are completed and about to go into print, we think it is necessary to explain some specific situations encountered during the translation, editing, and publication of this book.
1. The arrangement of the book follows the original order, listing composers in alphabetical order by their English names. The works, performers, and versions of each composer are listed under their respective entries.
2. The Western names of the works, record manufacturers, and their numbers are completely in accordance with the original book and have not been verified.
3. The translation of this book is basically based on English initials. Considering that each translator has a different translation style, we have made relatively flexible uniform handling of the translation of names, titles, and the use of book titles while respecting their styles. Due to the large size and immense workload of this book, as well as the involvement of multiple languages, it has also brought considerable difficulties to editing and typesetting. We have made some necessary uniform adjustments in aspects such as formatting. However, despite these efforts, there may still be some inconsistencies in the translation of personal names, punctuation, and book titles. There may also be omissions or shortcomings in certain key signatures or altered notes.
For these shortcomings, we sincerely hope that readers who use this book will kindly point out any such issues so that we can correct them in the next edition. Thank you!
