Features: This book is written with a practical approach, starting from real-world applications. Chapter 1 introduces the basic knowledge of writing English graduation theses, including selecting topics, determining titles, collecting materials, analyzing data, compiling reference lists, outlining and drafting thesis proposals, finalizing drafts, writing prospectuses, and thesis defenses. Chapter 2 is divided into five thematic sections—British and American Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, English Language, Language and Culture, and English Language Teaching—each introducing the mindset and key points for writing graduation theses in these fields as research directions.
Writing a graduation thesis requires adherence to academic norms, proficiency in certain methods and techniques, and substantial professional knowledge. Textbooks from general higher education institutions, especially those on British and American literary history, selected readings in British and American literature, and translation textbooks, often provide limited knowledge. To address this, we have organized the book into five thematic sections—"Literature," "Language," "Translation," "Culture," and "Language Teaching"—summarizing some professional knowledge in these fields and providing thesis topics and relevant reference materials.
The thesis topics provided in this book can be directly selected by students writing graduation theses, or they can refer to the style and approach of these topics to formulate more suitable thesis titles. Additionally, these topics can be used as exercises for writing practice. To enhance the book's practicality and provide students with more specific reference materials, we have included selected examples of graduation theses with accompanying comments, which students can study and draw inspiration from.
Furthermore, the book also compiles four appendices: "Major Academic Journals on Foreign Languages and Language Teaching at Home and Abroad," "Online Library Websites at Home and Abroad," "Websites on Foreign Languages and Language Teaching at Home and Abroad," and "Reference Standards for Evaluating English Graduation Theses."
