How long can people with nephrotic syndrome live?

Patient's question:

A friend's mother suddenly couldn't eat or drink a short while ago. She was swollen all over and couldn't urinate. Later, when they went to a small hospital in the county, they wouldn't accept her. They immediately transferred her to a large hospital in the provincial capital. The result was that she was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. After staying in the hospital for two months of treatment, her condition wasn't improving.

Doctor's answer:

Nephrotic syndrome is not a terminal illness and can be cured. With treatment combined with good lifestyle management, life expectancy is not significantly different from that of normal people. However, if left untreated, its progression can become fatal quickly.
Recommendations:
Persist in treatment, primarily with bed rest. The diet should be high in calories, high in protein, low in fat, low in sodium, high in calcium, and rich in vitamins.
