Features: An English Writing Course. Advanced English Writing Course (ACourseforAdvancedCollegeEnglishWriting) is suitable for students majoring in English and other international-related majors as a textbook for English writing classes, and can also be used by students and self-learners with similar proficiency levels. This course is divided into four parts. Part I includes Units 1 to 3, covering the selection, editing, and organization of topics for sentences, paragraphs, and entire articles. The sentences are concise, varied in structure, and emphasize key points, avoiding grammatical errors. Transitions and connections between sentences are emphasized, and paragraphs are focused on unity, coherence, and completeness. These are essential elements of English writing. Part II includes Units 4 to 12, covering various writing styles such as descriptive, narrative, and argumentative essays. Each unit is divided into Section A and Section B. Section A provides detailed explanations of the structural characteristics and writing strategies of each genre. Section B features selected exemplary essays by renowned authors in that genre, accompanied by analysis and appreciation questions to facilitate imitation and practice, followed by a set of exercises. Part III focuses on practical writing, including Units 13 to 15, covering letters (personal and business), resumes, cover letters, and memos, which are essential writing skills for students learning English writing. Part IV includes Unit 16, primarily explaining the use of punctuation in English writing, which is often overlooked but must be emphasized by learners. As a textbook, this course can be used over two semesters with one session per week (2 class hours). Teachers can select some materials and exemplary essays for classroom instruction, while the remaining content can be assigned for students to read independently. Writing exercises can be completed in class under time constraints or assigned as homework. During the compilation of this course, the authors referred to various foreign textbooks and selected readings, and some materials were quoted. The authors extend their gratitude here. At the back of the book, there is an Index of Reference Books, which includes some foreign publications consulted by the authors. Due to the authors' knowledge and expertise, despite their efforts, omissions are inevitable. We sincerely hope that experts will kindly point out any errors.
