Rites of the Master (Treasure Edition)

Author: Cai Zhizhong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-01-01
Features: The content of this book is "Shi Shuo Xinyu," consisting of three volumes. It was compiled by Liu Yiqing of the Southern Dynasties of Song and annotated by Liu Xiaozhu of the Liang Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, it was called "Xin Shu," and during the Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty, it was renamed "Xin Yu." The "Dong Guan Yu Lun" states that the name "Shi Shuo" originated from Liu Xiang, but his book is already lost, so the collection compiled by Yiqing is named "Shi Shuo Xin Shu." In the Song Dynasty, Lu You reprinted this book, and the title only referred to "Shi Shuo," adding the words "Xin Yu," but its origin is unknown. The book is divided into thirty-six categories, recording anecdotes and trivial remarks from the Eastern Han to the Eastern Jin Dynasties. Xiaozhu's annotations correct the errors in Yiqing's work, but the books he cited have been mostly lost, so they are often referenced by scholars for research.
