A canopy is a device that provides shelter from rain, snow, and sunlight, and serves as a means to guide the flow of people and vehicles, as well as direct the line of sight. Canopies play a role in enriching the facade of buildings and enhancing the architectural environment. In recent years, new buildings have sprung up like bamboo shoots after rain, diverse in color and form. As entrances to buildings, especially those of large public structures, canopies are frequently used by pedestrians and vehicles, requiring them to be striking and prominent. The traditional forms and scales of canopy entrances no longer meet the demands of modern architecture, the activities, interactions, and aesthetic preferences of contemporary people. Heavy and dull, with uniform designs, traditional canopies have been replaced by modern ones that are spacious, bright, lightweight, and elegant. The novelty of materials, the diversity of structures, and the renewal of creative concepts and techniques have made modern canopies varied in form and style. Architecture is the history book of an era, and as a component of architecture—the entrance canopy—it also records the progress of the times. As a record, we have compiled photographs of canopies that we have taken and collected into this book, for readers and peers to appreciate and reference.
