To preserve the original style, the volume numbers and sequence of the original text are retained as they appear in the original. The punctuation and sentence breaks in the text reflect the author's understanding of the original. Difficult, obscure, or specialized characters, as well as famous physicians, medical terms, and allusions, are annotated when first mentioned, listed when repeated, and explained in context. Chen was a physician who revered classical texts and antiquity. Although he had many unique insights into TCM theory, his descriptions of the academic thoughts, treatment methods, and formula- syndrome interpretations of were not entirely fair, and his understanding of certain conditions did not fully align with modern TCM theory. These points are clarified or supplemented in the annotations. In the Shifang Gekuo section, after each formula, the annotations provide modern pharmacological research and clinical applications, along with concise analyses based on modern TCM theory. This aims to help readers better understand the functions, scope of application, and primary conditions treated by the formulas, enriching their thinking and deepening their comprehension of the formulas' meanings.
