What are the differences between a child's eye reacting to foreign objects and normal daily reactions?

Patient's question:

A baby is 20 days old. Suspected of having hair stuck in the eye, but there is no redness, swelling, or visible irritant tearing. A strong flashlight was used to search but nothing was found. I would like to ask if there is any damage to the baby's eyes and future vision. Thank you.
First follow-up question: What are the differences between a foreign body reaction in the baby's eye and normal conditions? What should I do if it cannot be found?

Doctor's answer:

If tears cannot dislodge the foreign object, you can prepare a basin of clean water. Gently close your eyes and immerse your face in the basin. Blink a few times in the water, which will help flush out the foreign object in your eye. Alternatively, you can ask someone to hold your eyelid open and use a syringe filled with cool boiled water or physiological saline to flush your eye. Or, you can use a cup to rinse your eye.
