Child's eye has foreign body

Patient's question:

My son is four months old. Usually, the child's vision should be fine. Sometimes, there may be foreign objects like eyelashes or eye discharge attached in his eyes, but it seems like the child doesn't feel anything. Is this normal?

Doctor's answer:

??????Don't worry too much about this. Humans have a self-defense mechanism. As you mentioned, if there is something in the eye, the body's conditioned reflex will cause tears and other measures to expel the foreign object. It is likely that the thing in your baby's eye has already come out, so you don't need to worry too much. If there are any redness, swelling, heat, or pain in the eye afterward, it is recommended to visit an ophthalmologist. That would probably mean it didn't come out, but this possibility is very small.
