Author: Mi Fu
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2004-01-01
Features: Mi Fu's calligraphy of the Li Sao Jing is in running script and cursive script. The original ink rubbing is on paper in the form of a scroll. There are twenty-six leaves in total, with two images per leaf, five lines per image, and varying numbers of characters per line. The height of each image is 35.5 cm, and the width is 31.2 cm. As the postscript at the end of the scroll states, "Previous critics of Mi Fu's calligraphy have said it transcends the ordinary and reaches the divine, that it is profound and powerful. This scroll likely embodies both of these qualities. I personally regard it as elegant and flowing. The Shiqu Baoji collection contains many works by Mi Fu, none surpassing this one. Even when considering Mi Fu's calligraphy alone, it should be ranked as the best among his later works." It is truly a fine piece of Mi Fu's calligraphy.
