This book took six years from the conception of the guiding philosophy to the collection of materials and the writing of exercises. Chinese students often find it difficult to master English speaking skills. Limited oral question-and-answer sessions and the memorization of short passages and dialogues are not effective in improving students' practical English speaking abilities in daily life. Students often fear speaking English and struggle to overcome the speaking barrier. To find a way for students to enjoy using English in spoken practice, we conducted experiments and explorations, studied oral textbooks from both China and abroad, and examined the specific environment in which Chinese students learn spoken English. We selected materials from more than 60 books and journals from both China and abroad to complete this "English Speaking Course." It has the following features:
1) The lesson themes are closely related to the lives and thoughts of young people, covering a wide range of topics that are of interest and enjoyable for them to discuss. Learning this book helps young people develop a strong desire to use English in spoken practice.
2) The training progresses from easy to difficult in a systematic manner. The exercises are carefully designed and lively, with illustrations and exercises in both "English Beginner Speaking" and "English Intermediate Speaking." The methods used in the exercises are those we have repeatedly used and proven effective in teaching over the years.
3) It cultivates students' comprehensive speaking skills, including narration, dialogue, conversation, discussion, and debate.
4) The textbook is highly adaptable, suitable for young students in school at different levels as well as English learners with varying proficiency.
5) Each set of textbooks is accompanied by English audio recordings, with narrators who are scholars and experts from English-speaking countries. The recordings are clear, fluent, beautiful, and feature standard pronunciation and intonation.
