How to reduce swelling from preauricular fistula inflammation

Patient's question:

I have never had any illness before this year, but in the past, when I encountered this small eye, there would be discharge with a slightly foul odor. About half a month ago, the opening of the fistula started to become red and swollen, about the size of a green bean. After a week, it hasn't healed yet. How can I reduce the swelling of an inflamed preauricular fistula?

Doctor's answer:

If the child's preauricular fistula only discharges pus without redness or swelling, it is best to collect pus for bacterial culture and then perform a drug sensitivity test to select a sensitive antibiotic for treatment. For cases with a large amount of pus, local dressing changes are more meaningful in maintaining unobstructed drainage than medication. However, if it recurs frequently, with abscess formation and granulation tissue, it is prone to scar formation. It is recommended that if conditions permit, surgery should be performed as early as possible.
