Features: The Circle of Awakening Sutra (Huiyuan Jing) is an important classic studied by the Huayan sect during the Tang Dynasty. Its full title is The Great Vast Circle of Awakening, the Meaning of the Dharma's Profound Teaching, and it consists of one volume, translated by Buddha Tathagata during the Tang Dynasty. The scripture presents the Buddha teaching the twelve Bodhisattvas, including Manjushri, in turn, and elaborates on the theory of "relying on the pure perception of the circle to manifest the true nature of awakening, thereby completely cutting off ignorance," as well as the practices of "cultivating actions," "cultivating contemplation," and "cultivating meditation." The fifth patriarch of the Huayan sect, Zongmi of the Tang Dynasty, said he "encountered the Zen school and encountered the Circle of Awakening Sutra in teaching," meaning he attained enlightenment in the Dharma through reading the Circle of Awakening Sutra. Later, he wrote works such as The Great Commentary on the Circle of Awakening Sutra, The Great Commentary and Summary on the Circle of Awakening Sutra, and The Ritual for Cultivating and Validating the Circle of Awakening Sutra, to promote the Circle of Awakening Sutra, which thus became renowned in the Buddhist world. This book is a lecture by the renowned Taiwanese scholar Nan Huaijin on the Circle of Awakening Sutra, initially serialized in Buddhist magazines and later compiled into a book. With his profound academic expertise, the author explains the original text of the Circle of Awakening Sutra sentence by sentence and paragraph by paragraph, transforming the difficult and obscure into clear and accessible language, making it highly readable. With the authorization of the author and the original publisher, the Taiwan Ancient Culture Publishing Company, this revised and published edition is made available for research.
