What are the Five Elements? The Five Elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. They originated from primal religious worship and evolved from the religious motherbody into philosophical thought, developing into the philosophy of the Five Elements. The philosophy of the Five Elements posits that the world is composed of five fundamental substances: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The development and changes of all things and phenomena in nature and human life are the result of the constant movement and interaction of these five substances with different properties. The Five Elements mutually generate and control each other, promoting and restraining one another, thus creating a dynamic and diverse universe. The philosophy of the Five Elements constructs a cosmic creation model, affirming the materiality and dynamism of the world while believing that the movement of the material world is a cyclical, repetitive process. The Five Elements philosophy, as a worldview and methodology, holds an important position in traditional philosophy.
