Childhood nasal congestion, with thick nasal mucus, what to do?

Patient's question:

Hello, my baby is half a year old. In the past month, she has been constantly having nasal discharge, sometimes clear and sometimes thick, with nasal congestion. She doesn't have a fever or cough. Is this a cold or infantile rhinitis? We have been using Aichang and Xindaruo to treat her, and initially it worked well, but later it stopped being effective. What other medications can we use to treat her?

Doctor's answer:

Based on the symptoms and medical history, it is likely that the clinical manifestations are caused by chronic rhinitis. Taking Bi Yuan Tong Qiao Granules, 7 grams (half a bag) at a time, three times a day, for 3 to 4 weeks is recommended. It is advised to drink plenty of water, eat light and easily digestible food, take the medication regularly, and actively prevent and treat colds. A warm, damp towel can be applied to the baby's nose to inhale some moisture, which will soften the mucus. Then, a cotton swab can be used to gently remove the mucus. Alternatively, the mucus can be expelled when the baby coughs.
