What is the reason for the frequent nausea in a 7-month-old baby?

Patient's question:

My baby is now about 7 months and 20 days old. Every time she drinks formula milk, she feels nauseous. This condition has lasted for about 4 months. Moreover, she eats very little and has a very small appetite. The hospital examination revealed that she is malnourished, and the doctor prescribed zinc sulfate and Fei'er Chongji. After taking it for a few days, she still feels nauseous. She only drinks formula milk 2 or 3 times a day, and each time she only consumes about 120 ml. Now I am very worried and hope the doctor can provide some guidance! Thank you very much!

Doctor's answer:

Mixed feeding, nausea may be due to physiological gastroesophageal reflux. The child's digestive system is not fully developed, there is no pressure at the lower end of the esophagus, the lower esophageal sphincter is relatively loose, which makes reflux easy to occur.
Suggestions: The main approach is to change the body position. Hold the child upright, and do not lie them flat after burping. The head end of the sleeping position should be elevated by 30 degrees. If symptoms are more pronounced when sleeping on an incline, the mother can hold the child, with the child's back against the mother's chest. If sleeping on an incline, continue this position until around four months of age. After adding rice cereal, reflux should decrease. It is also possible that the child has a digestive tract malformation. If the symptoms are severe, it is recommended to have the child checked.
Regarding feeding: Do not overfeed or make the child too full. Aim for 70% fullness, with small, frequent meals. Feed every two and a half hours.
