Although this book, "On Being Unconventional in Literature" (to be published by People's Literature Publishing House), may be somewhat thin and modest, it is still a gesture of scholarly kindness. It aims to resonate with the dim and stormy times with a hoarse voice, and to enhance the vibrancy of literary expression. The book collects prefaces written in recent years. I believe that the prefaces I have written year after year are quite thoughtful, almost tracing the trends of literary creation in the 1990s of the last century, continuously raising questions and refining some of my theoretical assumptions. For the main literary phenomena of the past decade, I have also expressed my views in the discussions. Therefore, I secretly thought that if these prefaces could be connected into a coherent book, it would be quite interesting and could serve as a contrast to my once-published booklet, "Understanding the 1990s."
