Features: According to the "Practicing Physician Law of the People's Republic of China," China officially held its first National Practicing Physician Qualification Examination in November 1999, marking the establishment of the National Practicing Physician Qualification Examination system and elevating the standardized management of China's physician workforce to a new level. The Practicing Physician Examination covers a broad scope and contains extensive content. To help candidates effectively review during their busy clinical practice, enabling them not only to recall forgotten knowledge but also to refresh and expand their understanding while appreciating the requirements of physician practice, the National Health Commission's National Medical Examination Center commissioned the China and Beijing Medical University Press in 1999 to organize over 100 experts from various medical schools across the country (including local and military institutions) to write the "National Practicing Physician (Assisting Physician) Qualification Examination Preparation Guide" series based on the "National Practicing Physician Qualification Examination Syllabus." The book's features are: based on the examination syllabus, grounded in planned textbooks, with a focus on clinical competence, emphasizing the comprehensive application of knowledge and theory. During the writing process, under the guidance of the National Medical Examination Center, the experts repeatedly reviewed the content of the entire book to ensure its scientific rigor, applicability, and authority. To align with the categories of the Practicing Physician Examination, this series of books is also divided into six volumes: "Clinical Physician (Assisting Physician) Preparation Guide," "Dental Physician (Assisting Physician) Preparation Guide," and "Public Health Physician (Assisting Physician) Preparation Guide."
After several years of practice in the National Practicing Physician Examination, candidates have consistently praised this preparation guide during various forums, stating that it has been immensely beneficial and that it will continue to assist them during their early years as resident physicians. To better adapt to the new realities following China's entry into the WTO, reflect the requirements of health services for physicians, and meet the 21st-century medical talent cultivation goals proposed by international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Practicing Physician Qualification Examination Committee organized relevant experts in December 2001 to comprehensively revise the "National Practicing Physician (Assisting Physician) Qualification Examination Syllabus." The revised syllabus further emphasizes the requirements for physicians' comprehensive qualities, highlights the shift in medical paradigms and the concepts of patient-centered, law-based practice, stresses the cultivation of clinical thinking and problem-solving skills, focuses on practical application, and strengthens the comprehensive and integrated assessment of knowledge, abilities, and qualities of practicing physicians.
To meet the requirements of the new syllabus and satisfy the needs of candidates, the National Medical Examination Center again commissioned publishers to organize experts to update and supplement the "National Practicing Physician (Assisting Physician) Qualification Examination Preparation Guide" series, ensuring a more comprehensive and accurate reflection of the knowledge required for the examination. The "National Practicing Physician (Assisting Physician) Qualification Examination Preparation Guide" (Second Edition) is currently the only examination preparation book written according to the new syllabus. We hope that its reissue will not only assist candidates in successfully passing the examination but also make positive contributions to the development of medical education and the medical profession in China.
